Budget Commander League Season 3
Oathbreaker League
Will You Keep Your Oath?
Many Planeswalkers took oaths to defend and protect the inhabitants of the multiverse. To fight each other, these oaths will be broken.
In Oathbreaker, each 60-card singleton deck is led by a Planeswalker designated as that deck’s Oathbreaker. Each deck has a Signature Spell that falls within the Oathbreaker’s color identity. Both cards reside in the command zone. The Oathbreaker variant uses all the normal rules for a Magic game, with a few additions.
· Oathbreaker is multiplayer format, played with 60 card singleton decks (only one copy of each card, no limit on basic lands).
· You start the game with your Oathbreaker and Signature Spell in the command zone.
· Your starting life is 20.
· Your “Oathbreaker” is a Planeswalker. Its color identity determines the contents of your deck.
· Your “Signature Spell” must be an instant or sorcery card that falls within your Oathbreaker’s color identity.
· You cast your Oathbreaker from your command zone.
· Your Signature Spell may only be cast if your Oathbreaker is on the battlefield under your control.
· Both your Oathbreaker and Signature Spell are subject to “command zone tax”. These taxes are tracked individually, i.e. casting your Oathbreaker does not cause your Signature Spell to cost more.
Other League Rules:
· Oathbreaker banlist will be in effect.
· Total deck value cannot exceed $35 total value.
o Value is calculated at lowest cost version of the card at TCGplayer market value per card.
o Basic Lands count as $0.00 toward the budget.
o A decklist is required prior to the event start time at 1PM on Saturdays.
· There is no cost to participate in the league, promo packs will be given out based on attendance at each event. There is a $2 per week league fee if you want your accrued points to count toward the final prizing. The league will run until the week before Kaldheim prerelease.
· Each week there will be 3 rounds.
· Final Prizing is based on attendance throughout the league. This will include both commander decks released with Kaldheim at minimum for 1st place points finisher.
o Points are won as follows:
§ Winner of each pod during the weekly events will receive 1 point.
· Alternate Win Conditions are allowed.
· An infinite combo win will award 0 points.
§ Winner of the Weekly tournament would receive 1 bonus point.
